Today our new iOS app version 5.0 is released. It is the first step in our move towards unifying the interface of android and iOS. The most significant change will be the sidebar interface. We have made favorites much more prominent in the app so that quick access to frequent pages are easy during a clinical shift.
Check out WikEM’s new Broselow-type weight-based dosing feature under “Critical care quick reference” in the app (or, on the web at http://www.wikem.org/wiki/Critical_care_quick_reference).

WikEM has always had close ties to EM residency training programs. Harbor-UCLA has always been our greatest supporter and we thank all the residents this year who contribute a lot of great content and edits.

Medical education has witnessed an explosion in online medical content thanks to many prominent educators using blogs to publish great material. Bringing the content to mainstream resident education has also been helped by many publications (Thoma et al. 2014 and Scott 2014). As blogs, podcasts, ebooks, and video content continues to grow, the wiki occupies a central core to the solidification of online medical education.
The wiki allows for an infinite number of editors to work on a single page related to a specific topic. Most importantly, the wiki content lives on and continues to evolve even after an individual author’s writing. Today, with the launch of our new iOS 8 app we have made our first paid product. As the wiki grows, financial support is crucial for the community’s success and sustainability. However, at the core of WikEM is open and free access to information. The information on the wiki belongs to the world and will always remain free. Access to the content both online and offline will also always remain free. We use 100% of the funds from products like our new list and favorites feature to support technical costs as well new feature development.
We can’t wait to share all the great ideas for the future we have for the WikEM community and can only do it with all of you.
