FOAM Cortex was created by emergency physicians deeply involved in medical education. Tom Fadial, MD and Zahir Basrai, MD are emergency medicine physicians based in Los Angeles, and Alex Koyfman, MD is an emergency medicine physician based in Dallas, Texas. All three founders have longstanding involvement in FOAMed and digital medical education.

Dr. Fadial has built multiple widely used emergency medicine applications, including Nerve Block, Suturing, Abx, and Fractures. Dr. Basrai is the founder of the medical education website EMEd and the narrative medicine blog and podcast The Physician Grind. Dr. Koyfman is a co-founder of emDocs, a leading FOAMed resource in emergency medicine.
