Many physicians express concern over the integrity of content written on a wiki due to the democratic nature of the platform.  At WikEM, we take a diligent  approach to overseeing edits.  This post will describe our Wiki Review Process

The first part of the process involves eliminating anonymous edits.  This decreases the risk of vandalism and requires users to register with the wiki so we can track all edits related to each account.  The second step in the review process, is called “Edit Patrol”.  The wiki software flags all new edits for patrol by our editorial staff.  Only long standing wiki editors on the editorial board have the ability to mark an edit as patrolled.  Even our editorial board must have their edits patrolled by other members.  Below is a screenshot of what… Read more

Happy 4th of July to all our U.S. readers and welcome new interns and residents!  Last month, we focused on Pediatric Head Trauma.  This month we are switching gears in light of the recent meta-analysis on moderate PE and reviewing the MOPPET trial.  After reading the trial, add your notes and summaries to the wiki page as we build a great review of the article.

If you are encountering blank notes on your iOS device don’t be dismayed.  There are 3 things you can do to fix it.

First:  Go to the app about screen and click on the update icon to force update.

Second: Quit the WikEM app by double clicking the home button and swiping up on the image of WikEM.

Third: Open up the application and search for content. It should appear.

Fourth: Email me and I’ll work with you to fix it.

Again, we apologize for this issue.  As the content has grown exponentially on WikEM we are facing some bugs that need to be squashed.

It is exciting to hear many stories and receive thank you notes from providers using WikEM to help with medical recall, decision making, and knowledge translation while taking care of patients.  We are using all the donations for continued mobile app development, outreach, and many new projects that will benefit the global medical community. This year the WikEM team organized the OpenEM Foundation to help support the technical costs and finances of running the wiki and mobile applications.  Although the content will always remain free to the world, the mobile development, hosting, and the technical work to grow and improve the wiki, requires a significant amount of time and money.  Everyone on our team volunteers their skills to support free and open access to medical education, but WikEM would not be possible without your financial support.

We have always been focused on building a longterm sustainable project maintained by the EM community.  Regardless of where you practice medicine, we want to supply you with the tools to bring up-to-date medical knowledge  to your patient’s bedside.

Marissa Camilon MD began as a resident editor on WikEM during her intern year at Harbor-UCLA before starting at USC as an Emergency Medicine Resident.  A SoCal native, growing up in San Diego and attending UCI and USC, she brought a strong interest in Ultrasound and Medical Education to the site.  Her extensive edits to the Radiology Category span topics from Orthopedics to Ultrasound.
