In October, we will review another classic article, the De Gans Trial for Steroids in Bacterial Meningitis. Should you give dexamethasone for bacterial meningitis? Are there particular situations where antibiotics may be harmful? Be sure to read the article, and if you are feeling ambitious, there is a great cochrane review.
Be sure to check out past journal club articles as well.

This month we are going to be reviewing the original hypothermia trial, the HACA: Hypothermia after Cardiac Arrest Trial. This trial started it all, along with the Bernard Trial back in 2002. Just as we have added thrombolysis for moderate PE trials to our wiki, we will be building out the hypothermia after cardiac arrest evidence base.

Finally! We know it has taken us a long time to go live with the mobile version of the website. We have had mobile apps for awhile, but needed some extra time before making the web fully mobile. You may still notice a few formatting errors with the main page and certain tables as we work out the bugs, but each individual page will now look great regardless of your device.
If you don’t see the mobile site using your phone click the “mobile” link at the bottom of the page to switch over.
The best part of the mobile layout is the ability to edit from a mobile device and upload photos to the site directly from your phone. Everytime you are on a page using your phone or tablet you will see a camera icon which will walk you through uploading a picture.

This month we are increasing our ambition and reviewing 2 articles: the PIETHO trial, and the TOPCoat trial. Everyone will then have access to the three major trials for thrombolysis in submassive PE present on WikEM.
If you missed last month, we read the MOPETT Trial where thrombolysis in moderate PEs appeared safe and decreased pulmonary hypertension. PIETHO focuses on hemodynamic improvement after thrombolysis and TOPCoat has a large composite outcome that includes some patient centered characteristics.… Read more
We are looking for contributors to add photos of procedure setup, skin rashes and radiology images to the site. To become part of the photo team simply visit our upload page and begin uploading images that have no patient identifiers Don’t worry about not knowing all the places the images should go. Our editors will help move them to the appropriate pages.
We are working on upgrading the wiki software powering WikEM over the next few days and there may be episodes of increasing slowing of the site or loading issues. We will work hard on keeping them to a minimum but these upgrades are necessary for us to move towards improving the wiki-text editor on the site.

Community Eye Health has donated all of their ophthalmological images to the OpenEM Foundation for use on WikEM.org. Of course this will require a lot of time to parse through and add to the appropriate pages. This type of public donation of information will allow the wiki to move closer to it’s goal of becoming a massive distributed and free textbook for point of care knowledge.… Read more
